At the 2018 World Cup, at least 1.5 million foreign tourists are expected
Almost 2 million guests are waiting in the tourism industry, at least 1.5 million foreigners, says Mikhail Degtyarev, chairman of the State Duma Committee on Physical Culture, Sports, Tourism and Youth Affairs.
The expert notes that the World Cup should be made a “hospitality championship”. According to him, the infrastructure of the 2018 World Cup can be highly appreciated.
“A great deal of work has been done in the area of security and free transportation. The number of applications wishing to be volunteers at the 2018 World Cup has already reached 50 thousand <...> our volunteers will literally accompany each fan-tourist by the hand, says Mr. Degtyarev.
According to M. Degtyarev, prices in hotels for the duration of the competition are controlled by the government, the FAS checks the situation with rooms in hotels in the cities of the 2018 World Cup.
Sergey Kolesnikov, vice-president of the Federation of Restaurateurs and Hoteliers (FRIO), says that hotels expect tickets for the 2018 World Cup matches to appear on sale, their implementation has been delayed due to FIFA policy. Tourists are in no hurry to book hotels, and operators - to form tour packages due to the lack of tickets. According to S. Kolesnikov, there are no paid reservations in hotels for the 2018 World Cup.
Maya Lomidze, Executive Director of the Association of Tour Operators (ATOR) confirms the incomprehensible situation with the sale of tours and booking of ground service during the World Cup by fans and independent guests.
There are many more people who want to attend the World Cup now than expected, including those who want to combine visiting football matches with tourist purposes. A large number of people from all major football countries will come to us.
Lomidze believes that by May of this year the situation with accommodation and logistics of foreign guests will be clear.
