What Russians are ready to save on travel
The duration of rest of Russian tourists is falling, 50% of all travelers choose a vacation a week or less – this conclusion was made by the specialists of the travel service OneTwoTrip.
Experts analyzed the sales of air tickets from Russian cities to foreign countries since 2014.
In 2014, tours up to 7 days accounted for 33% of all round-trip ticket sales, in the summer of 2018 their share reached 50%. The percentage of travel from 8 to 14 nights for 4 years fell by 6.9%, duration more than 14 nights - by 10.2%.
The duration of tours fell the most in 2015 and 2016. In 2015, compared to 2014, the percentage of travel to 7 nights increased by 6.3%, in 2016 compared to 2015 - by 5.9%. The explanation lies in the economic situation, which forced tourists to reduce the duration of vacation, and sometimes completely abandon foreign trips.
Leonid Ryaboshtan, the head of OneTwoTrip, says that two main reasons affect the length of tours - finances and their preferences.
Foreign travel is becoming more expensive, and Russians are looking for optimization of vacation spending. Now the state of the economy has improved, so fewer people are ready to deprive themselves of a few days of rest than in 2015-2016. Travelers want to go abroad several times a year and see different countries, take not one long vacation, but several short ones.
64% of tourists take a lot of money on their trips to cover current expenses, but 46% need to save money to “get into the budget”, especially at the end of the trip. Travelers save on museums and excursions, such expenses are ready to reduce 22%. 22% of respondents are willing to walk and use public transport rather than taxis. 21% of tourists can save on food.
Tourists behave economically: 70% of respondents do not spend all the planned funds. 11% spend on the trip everything they take with them, and 17% “sweat” over budget.
