Maison de Bonneterie

History of Maison de Bonneterie

On March 18, 1889, the Maison de Bonneterie opened its doors for the first time. The store, located on Kalverstraat Street in Amsterdam, was created by a married couple, Joseph Cohen and Rosa Wittgenstein. Initially, the store specialized in knitwear. Hence the name "Maison de Bonneterie" (house of knitted fabrics). The store quickly expanded, and soon the collection was replenished with high-quality ready-made clothes, as well as suitable accessories. In 1913, the second Maison de Bonneterie store was opened in The Hague.
