Monkeys join police force in Thailand
Now on roadblocks in Thailand more and more often you can find macaques dressed in police uniforms. Passengers and drivers can take pictures and play with such a guard while their car is being checked. Thai authorities are confident that monkeys will help drivers to relieve stress and relax during a long journey, which in turn will reduce the number of accidents.
The monkey first appeared at a checkpoint in Saiburi. Male macaque named Santisuk (which translates as peaceful happiness) for 5 years, the police found him on the roadside with a broken arm, healed and sent to the service. The presence of a friendly primate, occasionally bringing coconuts from the near palm tree, really helps to defuse the situation.
