Opera at the foot of the pyramids
The tradition of staging Giuseppe Verdi’s opera Aida in Egypt at the foot of the pyramids of Giza resumes. The Ministry of Culture of this country eight years ago banned the display of performances against the background of the pyramids, arguing that the stage spoils the view of the monument, as well as a large crowd of spectators. But since October 5, you can hear and see the legendary “Aida” near the pyramids of Khafre, Mykerin and Cheops. Four performances are planned for the whole of October, which, according to the organizers, will interest a large number of tourists. The stands built specifically for the production will be able to accommodate up to four thousand spectators, and about three thousand musicians and artists will participate in the show itself. The action in “Aida” takes place in ancient Egypt, in the cities of Thebes and Memphis, when the pharaohs are in power. The opera was first presented to the public on December 24, 1871 in Cairo.
