Hoteliers of Turkey do not want to reduce prices due to the fall of the ruble

The depreciation of the ruble is not a reason to panic and drop prices. That's how the market reacts. Turkey for the jumps in the Russian currency on the eve of the start of the summer season - 2018.

The Republic is confident that this year will be successful in inbound tourism (the resorts are waiting for 38-40 million foreign guests, 6 million tourists from the Russian Federation), but the profitability of hoteliers leaves much to be desired. The Turkish government has urged the sector not to lower prices.

Another reason for the execution of the state order was the situation with the fall of the Russian ruble: the Russian currency depreciated against the US dollar by 7-8%, and Turkish hoteliers, according to local media, receive requests from Russian tour operators to lower prices.

In some tour operators of the Russian Federation confirm this information, but pay attention to the fact that the reason for this is not only the fall of the ruble and the need for discounts, but also the decline of the Turkish lira against the dollar. Hoteliers Turkmm carry out settlements in dollars, i.e. their income from dollar receipts from the Russian Federation is growing. It is profitable for hoteliers of Turkey to sell rooms at this high rate to Russians now - even with discounts, fixing profits, than during the season to try to sell them for weakening liras to domestic tourists.

Against the background of these negotiations, the relevant associations of the Republic of Turkey made appeals to hotels and local tourism business. Firuz Baglikay, head of the Association of Turkish Travel Agencies (TURSAB), is confident that the situation in the Russian market will become normal: “There is no need to panic.” You don’t have to cut prices, it’s too dangerous. Even if the prices do not decrease, the Russian tourist will still come.

Erkan Jagci, Head of the Association of Mediterranean Tourist Hoteliers (AKTOB) “We must respect the terms of the contract. We offered a fair price. We must now stand up and leave without giving in to negotiations.

Russian market players are confident that talking about prices is “normal.” In the case when the demand stops due to the high price, it is possible and necessary to discuss the reduction in the cost of accommodation, try to optimize prices for the tour.

There is an opinion that against the background of high demand, hoteliers in Turkey have inflated expectations for the Russian market.

“All [hoteliers in Turkey] are waiting for the golden rain this season,” said one of the players in the Russian tourism market. Tour operators believe that against the background of an unstable lira and a weak European market, Turkish hotels can ask for price adjustments, because “there is a whole season ahead to sell.”

In 2017, 4.7 million Russians rested in Turkey.
