The fall of the Turkish lira will not reduce prices for summer holidays
The drop in the rate of the Turkish lira to a historic low will make a cheap winter holiday in Turkey for travelers who are going to go on New Year holidays in Istanbul or Antalya. Hope for a decrease in the cost of rest in the summer in the Republic should not.
The exchange rate of the Turkish lira by Thursday fell to a historic low against the dollar and the ruble. The official rate of the Central Bank of the Russian Federation - 1 TRY is now 14.92 rubles. 2013 - the lira rate of 16 rubles 84 kopecks, in December 2014 and January 2015 reached 28 rubles. That is, the dollar in Turkey has increased by 19% since June. The Central Bank of Turkey is trying to slow down the fall of the national currency and increase the yield of government bonds. Experts say that, according to Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, the Central Bank is taking the wrong action, and high interest rates are fueling inflation. Also because of Erdoğan himself, his complex relationship with the West and NATO threats.
In the Russian media, the situation in Turkey shows hope for inexpensive summer tours. However, market professionals say that most likely there will be no change in prices for the summer. “The dynamics of the lira rate usually does not significantly affect the price offered by hotels,” says Sergey Tolchin, sales director of the travel operator NTC Intourist.
“Tour operators calculated their packages before the lira fell and have already priced early booking tours. It should be remembered that tour operators received prices for hotels from their host partners in dollars, so the lira rate will not affect them. When buying a tour package, the money in any case goes through the chain of intermediaries - the Russian tour operator receives money from the tourist, transfers them to his Turkish host company or Turkish unit, if we are talking about "Turkish" tour operators, and he already settles with hotels. Lyres are only “turned on” at the last stage of the chain. In any case, it will take time for Moscow offices to recalculate prices in dollar equivalent for the summer, and, in my opinion, it is not a fact that this will happen, said Gennady Kosarev, a specialist in the Turkish travel market.
According to the professional, customers of “direct booking” will be able to win something, and people who have planned a holiday in Turkey for the New Year and traditional winter holidays. The expert believes that the price will be low due to the fact that winter is an unpopular season and because of the low cost of transportation.
