The couple meet every day at the border point for a coffee break: because of the coronavirus, the border between Germany and Denmark is closed

The closure of the border between Germany and Denmark did not interfere with the visits of the elderly couple. A man and a woman meet daily for coffee at the border crossing.

85-year-old Inga Rasmussen from the city of Galleus and 89-year-old Karsten Tühsen Hansen from Süderlugume come to the fence (marks the border between Germany and Denmark). The couple lives on different sides, but this does not prevent them from communicating over coffee. Inga sits on a chair on the Danish side and Karsten sits on the German side. They open cookies and pour coffee.

Rasmussen and Hansen met by chance last year. Since March 13, 2019, they have been spending every day together. Usually, the trip from one border town to another took 20 minutes, but now borders are closed due to the coronavirus outbreak and the couple have stopped meetings in the usual format. Pensioners moved afternoon coffee breaks to the border in Aventoft.

Karsten gets to the border by electric bike, and Inga by personal car. Their encounters are quite typical except that they can't get closer to each other than 1.5 meters.

Despite the difficult situation, the couple hope to celebrate together Easter, and after the end of the pandemic to go on a joint trip.
