Why do foreign tourists choose tours of Russian cemeteries?
Wealthy middle-aged foreigners are increasingly choosing tours of historic cemeteries Moscow and St. Petersburg.
The most popular among them were Troekurovsky (Moscow), Volkovskoe and Smolensk cemeteries (St. Petersburg). This was reported by the Agency “RIA Novosti”.
- High-income and middle-aged tourists show the greatest interest. This is due not only to the cost of excursions, but also to cultural differences in preferences.
- In addition to the CIS countries, the leaders in the number of memorial tourists are citizens of Turkey, Myanmar, Sweden, China and the United States.
- Since 2023, Russia’s famous necropolises have attracted tourists from 153 countries. Among the "non-obvious" guests are citizens of Kuwait, Samoa, Chile and New Zealand, the researchers said.
