The US Embassy has changed the procedure for issuing visas for Russians

The U.S. Embassy has changed the procedure for issuing visas for Russian citizens: now, when re-applying for a visa, it is necessary to undergo an interview if more than 12 months have passed since the expiration of the previous visa.

Previously, if a visitor or tourist visa to the United States expired, then a re-application within 48 months was not required to visit the embassy. It was enough to send a passport with Pony Express - the need for a personal interview was determined by the consular officer.

The State Department will now require a visa interview for all applicants, except for diplomats or certain other categories of officials, applicants under the age of 14 or over the age of 79, or those who have previously applied for a visa of the same category that has already expired but has not more than 12 months since its expiration.

As always, a consular officer may require any applicant to appear for an interview in person in any situation where the application process so requires. “The Department of State considers it its duty to promote freedom of movement lawfully, while respecting measures to secure the borders of the United States and the American people,” the statement said.

Changes to the procedure for issuing visas were made in accordance with the decree of US President Donald Trump.

The document abolishes a program that allowed citizens of some countries in some situations not to be interviewed before obtaining a visa. The Department of Homeland Security is also tasked with accelerating the creation and commissioning of a biometric system to track the movement of people crossing the US border.
