Prague’s Golden Street is closed to tourists
The street where the writer Franz Kafka lived and where all tourists who visit Prague’s most important tourist attraction – Prague Castle – go for a year closed to tourists. It will undergo a comprehensive reconstruction and will open only in a year. This event, very annoying for tourists, is eagerly awaited by archaeologists. In connection with the replacement of the sewerage, there will be excavated pits, six meters deep, which will allow to conduct research on this part of the complex, in which formerly lived Czech kings and Holy Roman Emperors. Golden street was built in the XVI century. At first, the royal archers of Emperor Rudolf II lived here, but later this territory was given to artisans, among whom there were also gold deeds of the master. In honor of them, the street got its name. People lived here in the middle of the last century, and from 1916 to 1917 worked the famous Prague writer of Jewish origin Franz Kafka. After the Second World War, the street was given to tourists, who are attracted by dwarf houses built into the former fortress wall of Prague Castle.
