Indonesian president to give travellers 30% off coronavirus

Indonesian media reports that the president Indonesia Joko Widodo has instructed the government to negotiate with hotels and tour operators to provide discounts to foreigners visiting Indonesian tourist destinations, including the famous Bali resort.

The measures could be an economic boost because the country’s tourism sector has been adversely affected by the COVID-19 coronavirus outbreak in recent months.

Joko Widodo noted that specific tourist destinations will be named, which will be covered by a 30% discount. The president also added that the government should “stimulate” the tourism industry so that the economy can withstand the “pressure of the coronavirus.”

Indonesia has not reported any confirmed cases of COVID-19 on its territory, but citizens believe the virus is a serious public health threat in the country.

A survey by an international analyst firm found Indonesia ranked second after China as a country concerned about the virus outbreak. The survey was conducted from January 31 to February 11, 2020, it surveyed 27 thousand people in 23 countries.
