Extending school holidays to October will hurt tourism?

Specialists of the tourism industry called the proposal of State Duma deputy Vasily Vlasov to extend school holidays until October 1 self-promotion.

They believe that this measure will give a small positive effect for tourism, but it will almost immediately be “removed” by a response – for example, rising prices in hotels, and the benefit for domestic tourism from this measure will be zero.

The essence of the proposal of Deputy V. Vlasov – the summer holidays of students and schoolchildren should be extended until October 1, so that they could go on vacation in September. He said he heard such requests from students and teachers.

" The measure will contribute to the development of tourism in Russia, since it will allow our citizens with children to go to the southern resorts of the country in September, the deputy said.

The initiative might work. “On the one hand, the measure can give plus 3-5% to the tourist flow. Such an assessment can be made based on the change in sales in September due to the fact that families with school children stop their holidays, as children go to school, said Sergey Romashkin, director of the tour operator Dolphin. At the same time, we are talking only about beach tours, there will be no influence on the excursion.

On the other hand, and now some parents with children, including school age, go to rest in September. The reasons ... economic ...”

If the holidays are extended, hotels will leave August prices for September or slightly less. “... such an extension of the holidays will have a negative effect and a decline in tourist flow <...> the increase in prices will affect not only parents with school-age children, but also simply on tourists who prefer to rest in September in the velvet season.”

The expert of the tourism industry expressed hope that the idea will not come to a serious discussion.
