Traveler Fedor Konyukhov shares impressions after the disaster in the ocean

Russian traveler Fyodor Konyukhov, whose boat capsized in the Southern Ocean, spoke about the incident in his Instagram.

Konyukhov reports that the theoretical calculations that were carried out during the design of his vessel AKROS have been justified, and he is happy to return the boat to a flat keel. There were "test coups" in a calm water bay using a tap last summer, the traveler said, but things turned out differently in the Southern Ocean.

"After the experience, when the waves lift the boat, I squeeze in and expect a coup," says the skipper.

On April 2, it became known that Fyodor Konyukhov’s rowboat was caught in a storm in the Southern Ocean and capsized for the first time in 117 days. The fact that the boat made a turn of 360 degrees and stood on a flat keel, the traveler reported on April 1 at 22:17. As a result, the boat lost part of the solar panels and wind indicator.

Konyukhov’s sixth round-the-world trip started on December 6, 2018. New Zealand It was designed by British designer Philip Morrison.

The boat is 9 meters long, it is equipped with waterproof food compartments and independent energy sources - a solar module, wind generators, an installation that turns methanol into electricity. There are two types of satellite phones and other means of communication on board.
