World Health Organization Recommendations: Should Tourists Cancel Travel Due to Coronavirus?
Carmen Dolea, Head of the Secretariat of the International Health Regulations of the World Health Organization, gave the official position of the WHO and gave tourists recommendations on proper behavior.
K. Dolea, in a video interview on the organization’s website, says that the World Health Organization (the secretariat of the WTO’s International Health Regulations) currently does not impose restrictions on travel and trade and emphasizes that there is no need to cancel or amend travel plans.
The World Health Organization (WHO) believes that simple hygiene rules can prevent the spread of coronavirus.
A coronavirus infection (like other respiratory diseases) can cause mild symptoms: a cold, sore throat, cough, fever, or serious symptoms like pneumonia and difficulty breathing. Death is rare.
The risk of severe forms of the disease persists in the elderly and people with chronic diseases (diabetes and heart disease).
Coronavirus can be transmitted through close contact with people who have symptoms (cough, sneezing, cold), but it is not airborne.
If you are near a person who has symptoms of respiratory disease, you should keep a safe distance of 1 m.
The virus can be on the surface of objects for about half an hour, so you need to wash your hands often or use alcohol-based disinfecting gels.
The WHO recommendations for coronavirus are similar to those for regular seasonal influenza: apply the usual preventive measures - cover your nose and mouth when sneezing and coughing, use a disposable handkerchief, keep your hands clean and treat food in accordance with normal hygiene rules.
