Russia is more popular than Turkey and Bulgaria. Competitiveness rating in tourism
On April 11, Rosturizm posted on its official website information on the competitiveness rating in the field of tourism of the World Economic Forum. At the end of 2016, Russia took 43rd place, ahead of Turkey and Bulgaria, but losing to India, Slovenia and Indonesia. The leaders of the industry were Spain, France, Germany, Japan and the United Kingdom.
It turns out that, according to the results of last year, Russia rose by two points in the list of 136 countries, according to the data of the Travel and Tourism Competitiveness Report. In 2014 (the report is published every two years), our country rose in the ranking by 18 points (45th place).
Vice-President of the Russian Union of Travel Industry (PCT) Yuri Barzykin believes that Russia can enter the top ten of the rating - the natural, recreational and cultural potential of the country will allow it to count on this, but it is not yet possible to translate this into a competitive product. “The State must work to ensure access to these resources. It is necessary to support business, develop infrastructure, and increase the visa availability of our country. You can argue about the place on the list, but the trends are right. It's a signal to action. And in principle, the assessment is even high, Barzykin said.
In the list of priorities of tourism for public policy, Russia ranks only 95th (data from the same report). Rostourism explains this by the fact that the assessment takes into account, among other indicators, the volume of marketing expenses. And the cost of our country to promote its tourism potential is less than that of other developed countries in terms of tourism.
Many observers are skeptical about the effectiveness of these funds. For example, the advertising campaign “Time to rest in Russia” (July, 2016) caused many negative comments from advertising specialists. Responsible for this company was the deputy head of Rosturizm Sergey Korneev.
