Russia ranked fourth among Bulgaria’s inbound tourism markets

Nearly 490,000 Russian tourists who visited Bulgaria between June and September 2016 placed Russia fourth among all other Bulgarian inbound tourism markets.

In the first 11 months of the year, I can report that we met more than 7.85 million foreign tourists, which is a jump of more than 16% compared to the same period in 2015. Undoubtedly, by the end of the year, this figure will exceed 8 million foreign tourists on an annual basis, which will be almost 1 million more than last year, and more than the country’s own population, Angelkova said in an interview with RIA Novosti.

She noted that Bulgaria spent the summer with the highest figures in the history of Bulgarian tourism and expressed hope that during the winter season they will increase. “In the active months, June-September, Bulgaria met more than 5 million foreign citizens, which is more than 18% higher than in the same period in 2015,” she explained.

During this period, almost 490 thousand Russian tourists visited our country (the fourth place among all generating markets of Bulgarian tourism). But these are just statistics from accommodations with more than 10 seats. If we add to them all Russian citizens arriving in Bulgaria – in their own housing, visiting, etc., we will see that the growth is about 40% compared to the same period last year, Angelkova said. In general, I can say that this year marked the return to Bulgaria of Russian tourists, who are among the most important for the Bulgarian tourism sector. I hope that this trend will continue in the upcoming winter season and in 2017.
