Russians can claim increased compensation due to delayed flights

Travelers from Russia will be able to claim increased compensation for delays in international flights.

On May 26, amendments to the Air Code of the Russian Federation made in connection with the inclusion of our country in the Montreal Convention were updated.

Russian President Vladimir Putin confirmed his accession to the convention in April. The Montreal Convention was adopted in 1999, it has been working since 2003, its participants - 119 countries.

The Montreal Convention established international air travel rules adopted in 1999 and ratified by 120 countries. If the flight is delayed, the passenger has the right to claim damages: in case of delay or cancellation of the flight, overbooking and refusal to board.

The air code of the Russian Federation was edited and received changes that “expand the scope and amount of liability of the carrier to passengers for damage caused during the flight delay, the liability of the company increased to 380 thousand rubles / passenger.”

The Convention gives the right to file a claim against the carrier at the main place of residence of the passenger. The aviation company will be liable for damage that occurred in the event of death or bodily injury of a passenger on board the aircraft, during landing or disembarkation. The code notes the time of transportation of a person - his presence on board, the time of boarding and disembarking.

Experts believe that accession to the Montreal Convention will increase the competitiveness of domestic airlines in the international air transportation market, the service will become more efficient.
