RZD switches to local time in schedules and tickets

Russian Railways announce the switch to local time in their tickets.

Since Soviet times, Russian railway workers have kept the indication of Moscow time in the schedules for the whole country, including Siberia and the Far East, where the difference with Moscow is up to 3-7 hours.

As a result, passengers had to calculate in their minds the difference between local and Moscow time. Reading and understanding the timetable of the train, which ran across multiple time zones, turned into a challenging quest.

Technologically unified Moscow time was convenient for the internal needs of railway workers, but confused passengers, and sometimes led to their late arrival at the station (or vice versa). Russian Railways for a long time did not take into account the example of airlines that have long used a single world time for domestic needs, but always local for passengers.

The indication of local time in tickets and schedules will be used for departures from August 1. Ticket sales for this date begin on May 4. For the convenience of passengers, tickets will indicate the difference with Moscow time - for example, "22:24 (MSK +5)".
