Seoul declared UNESCO Creative City of Design

Most recently, the Korean National Commission for UNESCO announced the awarding of Seoul the honorary title of UNESCO Creative City of Design, as well as the signing of a memorandum of intent. This was announced in Paris at UNESCO headquarters. Since 2004, UNESCO has recognized 25 cities in 7 areas: culture, design, music, crafts, nutrition, media art and film. In the selected category, Seoul competed with cities such as Buenos Aires, Berlin, Montreal, Nagoya, Shenzhen, Kobe and Shanghai. Seoul’s victory in this “competition” will increase its status and prestige, which is also very profitable from the economic side. The city administration said they are going to take full advantage of the opportunities to attract and develop business as well as culture and creativity.
