Sydney rises to 9th place in list of world's foremost cities
According to the estimates of the international consulting company AT Kearney, Sydney was in the top ten advanced cities in the world! As it is often referred to as the “City on the Gulf”, it was ranked 9th in 2010. In total, the 65 largest cities in the world were evaluated, comparing cities on such indicators as business activity, human potential, political stability, cultural experience and information exchange. New York topped this ranking, while London, Tokyo, Paris and Hong Kong entered the top five. In 2008, Sydney was ranked 16th. Patricia Forsyth, chairwoman of the Sydney Business Committee, said she was delighted that Sydney was now officially one of the best cities in the world. “It’s a competition that we can’t stop at for a second,” said Ms Forsyth, “we have a lot of problems to solve – transportation and housing shortages, but it’s nice to know that we live with one of the world’s foremost cities!” None of Australia’s other cities made the list in 2010. The AT Kearney report also noted that along with cities such as New York and London, which have always been open to the world, this year the ranking of advanced cities included 5 megacities from the Asian region!
