Visa cards are most often used by fans from the United States, the People’s Republic of China and Mexicans.

 

Spending fans at stadiums from 14 to 21 June: in the “Luzhniki” fans left 139 million rubles: 71 million rubles spent by foreign guests. The total amount of the average check for all stadiums is 1682 rubles.

 

The main costs at the stadiums: food, drinks, souvenirs. The number of purchases of foreigners and Russians in sports paraphernalia stores is approximately the same, but fans of sports from other countries can afford to spend on this category of goods one and a half times more.

 

Visa’s share of the international payment card market, at 30% according to Nielsen’s calculations, is almost twice that of its closest competitor, Mastercard (15.5%). The payment behavior of cardholders of these systems cannot be different, but Visa has the advantage as a sponsor of the championship and only its cards are accepted for payment in stadiums.

 

There is an assumption that cardholders of other international systems (including Mastercard and UnionPay) could spend as much as 1 billion rubles, and the entire amount spent by foreigners in Russia on payment cards for these five days can count 3.5 billion rubles.
