How much do travelers save by choosing hostels instead of hotels?

The State Duma Committee on Housing Policy and Housing on March 19 recommended the creation of a conciliation commission on the law banning hostels in residential premises of apartment buildings (it was rejected by the Federation Council). The law could take three months to finalize.

Hosteliers are opposed to possible changes. In the centers of many cities, there is practically no new construction, even in Moscow with this difficulty, and travelers do not want to live in separated areas.

“No one wants to live in a hostel in Lublino. There may be such hostels, but they are usually hostels for workers. The hostel - and precisely in that its value - is located in the historical part of the city ..." - believes E. Nasonov, a member of the board of the League of Hostels.

Possible changes could lead to the closure of more than half of hostels in Russia. The record belongs to St. Petersburg, where 77% of hostels are surrounded by apartments. Almost the same high percentage of hostels in residential buildings in Yekaterinburg (76%). Third place in Novosibirsk — 65% of hostels are adjacent to housing, — said analysts of geoservice 2GIS.

Statistics confirm the popularity of hostels, Irina Ryabovol, representative of momondo: "The cost of accommodation in hostels in Moscow, St. Petersburg, Kazan and Sochi, which Russian and foreign tourists visit most often, on average two to five times lower than in hotels of the budget category."

Tourists are interested in a budget format of accommodation - hostels, apartments, apartments - this type of accommodation allows you to stay in the city center for little money, and tourism becomes more accessible.

About 15% of Russians stayed in hostels on Russian trips in 2018. On tours abroad, the type of accommodation was booked by 10% of tourists. Hostels are more often booked by tourists from 18 to 24 years (20%), among travelers from 35 to 44 years the figure is 12%.

Accommodation in a hostel will cost a tourist cheaper than a three-star hotel. On average, a night in a Moscow hotel is 3 * - 3 300 rubles, in a hostel - 1,100 rubles. In St. Petersburg, the hotel - 2 200 rubles, in the hostel - 800 rubles. Night in the "three" in Sochi - 2 600 rubles, in the hostel - 800 rubles. In Kazan hotel - 2 800 rubles, hostel - 950 rubles. In Nizhny Novgorod - hotel - 2 600, hostel - 900 rubles.

Hostels are popular among Russians, but 77% of citizens polled by VTsIOM do not want to agree to its placement in their home. 58% of those dissatisfied will not soften their position under any circumstances.

The law under discussion prohibits the use of premises as a hotel or other means of temporary accommodation. To provide hotel services, the room must be transferred to non-residential, put a soundproofing system, fire safety equipment, alarms, safes, cleaning equipment.

The state Duma on March 6 adopted the document, but on March 13 it was rejected by the Federation Council. Members of the upper house disagreed with the ten-day transition period. The objection caused the lack of compensation for the income of the subjects of the Russian Federation, which they will lose.
