How much money are Russian tour operators losing because of the coronavirus?
Losses of Russian tour operators due to the coronavirus amount to about $100 million per month.
First of all, the reason for this is a sharp decrease in Chinese tourist traffic, but the number of tour sales to Russian tourists also decreased by about a quarter.
One out of every 10 tourists in the world is from China, so the coronavirus situation has hit tourism all over the world. As for Russia, the assessment of not brought funds to our country by Chinese tourists correlates with the amount of about $100 million per month, said Oleg Cherednichenko, associate professor of economic theory at the Plekhanov REU.
Tourism retail also noted a decline in sales among Russian tourists. According to statistics of the director of the network of travel agencies “Pink Elephant” Alexan Mkrtchyan, the total sales of tours in Russia decreased by 20-25% compared to that expected in February 2020.
