How many losses did the absence of Russian tourists bring to Georgia in two months?

The National Bank of Georgia (Financial Sector) reported: in August 2019, the republic’s revenues from tourism amounted to $ 396.1 million – by 10.6% or $ 46.8 million less than in August 2018.

In July, revenues fell 13.3%, or $57.8 million, to $374.7 million compared to the same month in 2018.

The main reason is the decline of the Russian tourist flow. The information and analytical department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia reported that in July there were 217.5 thousand Russians (a drop of 12%), and in August - by 6%, to 252.9 thousand people.

Before the Georgian scandal, the tourist flow grew so fast that it still provides an increase in overall statistics.

In total, 6 million 216.5 thousand tourists visited Georgia, 6.1% more than in the same time of 2018. Russian tourists - 1 million 304.5 and the growth of tourist traffic - 12.2% - due to the tourist flow in the first half of the year.

In late June, a political scandal in Georgia led to a ban on transportation from Russia to Georgia and the sale of tours to this country from July 8.
