Cellular operators begin to cancel roaming in Russia
Mobile operators by the end of September are going to cancel intranet roaming in the regions of Russia.
From August 20, PJSC VimpelCom (Beeline) will cancel the fee for incoming calls when calling from other regions and traveling around Russia. MegaFon intends to stop charging for the service from August 30, 2018. The operator MTS is going to do this for 90% of subscribers by August 30, for the remaining 10% by September 30. Tele2 will make incoming calls free from August 31.
The abolition of intranet roaming in Russia is possible after the antimonopoly investigations of the FAS against telecom operators. Experts have established unreasonably inflated roaming prices. The service issued the necessary warnings to the operators of the “big four”.
Only Tele2 volunteered to do this.
Other operators did not want to fulfill the requirements of the FAS, and became defendants in the case of violation of antimonopoly legislation.
At the moment, the operators informed the FAS about the fulfillment of service requirements and the cancellation of paid communication services in roaming. The antimonopoly service says that after the innovation, the prices for communication will not rise, since there are no grounds for this.
Representatives of the FAS believe that subscribers after the cancellation of roaming will consume more services, and this will enable operators not to lose income, and individuals do not pay more.
