The demand of Russians for tours to the wild grew by 30%.
Summer in Russia is an ideal time for ecotourism and recreation in nature. Where to go in the summer? Watch seals that bask on the rocks of the White Sea and Lake Baikal, look at whales off the coast of Teriberka, and also see Kamchatka bears fishing on waterfalls.
Where, when and how to safely observe animals?
The demand of Russians for summer wildlife tours and country bases near national parks grew by 30% compared to last year. The most popular destinations for summer holidays are Baikal, Kamchatka, Murmansk, Astrakhan and Arkhangelsk regions, said Oksana Bulakh, Commercial Director of Alean.
On Baikal, the best time to observe seals is July and August. The largest rookery is located on the Ushkany Islands, where tourists can watch animals from a special observation deck through slots in the wall. In order not to scare off shy seals, it is recommended to move quietly. Also the seal can be seen on the Cape Khoboy island of Olkhon and in the sealarium in Listvyanka.
In the Murmansk region, in the area of Teriberka, from April to September conduct a photo hunt for whales. The peak of activity falls in the middle of summer, but there is no guarantee to see whales. For a variety of recreation, tourists are offered fishing and tasting sea delicacies.
A trip to the Astrakhan Biosphere Reserve is better planned for the second half of summer, when lotuses bloom in the Volga Delta. The walk can be combined with birdwatching: the reserve is home to about 300 species of birds, including the red-book white-tailed eagle and curly pelican.
In summer, tourists can get acquainted with the rich fauna of the region and take unique photos of brown bears fishing for salmon during spawning. Travelers are placed on lakes, among the main photolocations are the Kuril and Two Hurt Lakes.
