Thailand to increase number of sandbox provinces for vaccinated tourists

The kingdom has increased the number of provinces that vaccinated tourists can visit without quarantine.

From January 11, Krabi, Phangnga (with arrival at Phuket airport) and Surat Thani will join Phuket, the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) told ATOR Bulletin.

In the province of Surat Thani, tourists will be able to access the islands of Samui, Phangan and Koh Tao within the framework of the Sandbox, and the mainland part of the province is still closed for visiting without quarantine.

Before the suspension of the Sandbox program in all provinces except Phuket, the program included 17 provinces.

Entry conditions in the four sandbox provinces remain unchanged. Tourists will need to apply for a Thailand Pass. A vaccination certificate (from Russian vaccines Sputnik V is accepted), a negative PCR test obtained 72 hours before the trip, a paid hotel for at least 7 nights and a transfer, two PCR tests paid in advance (the first one is on arrival, the second one is on 5-6 days of stay in Thailand), an insurance policy with coverage of at least $ 50,000.

All tourists must download and install the MorChana app. After a week of stay in the chosen province, you can travel to any region of Thailand.

A trip to other regions of Thailand that are not part of the Sandbox is impossible without quarantine.

Russia is in first place among countries in terms of the number of tourists arriving to Phuket. From November 1 to December 31, 19,542 Russians arrived in Phuket. And for four days of 2022, from 1 to 4 January, 2,511 tourists from the Russian Federation entered the country.
