Thailand is not happy with its own image
Prime Minister Prayut Chan-ocha said Thailand needs to shed its image as a country for sex tourism. Pattaya and other areas of Thailand will be cleared of the industry and made “quality tourist attractions”.
The Prime Minister explained that the country’s residents often go to work in the sex industry due to lack of means for living. The state is obliged to break with the labor of citizens and help change their professions.
Thai politicians were outraged by the Gambian culture minister’s remarks, saying foreigners should not travel to the Gambia in search of sex for money.
The Thai Foreign Ministry stressed that the country has a huge number of tourist attractions not related to the sex industry, and Thailand is obliged to do everything to avoid such words.
