Mysteries of manipulation: how airports make money on travelers

The Sun reports that airports have a lot of secret fixtures for travelers to spend more money while waiting for flights.

Currently, travelers can register for the flight on special automated racks. According to studies, passengers check in faster, and they have free time for shopping at the airport.

The layout of trading platforms in air harbors has features. Most often, shops and restaurants are combined to mimic the main street, and they are designed so that passengers travel long distances through shopping areas before boarding.

The direction of movement is also important: most people are right-handed, and passing along the curve to the left allows travelers to see more goods (at this time they subconsciously look to the right).

Julian Lukashevich, a lecturer in aviation management at the New University of Buckinghamshire, believes that windows on the street also affect the desire to spend money, as passengers often go to shops with access to sunlight.

To “help” tourists spend more money, a pleasant atmosphere is created at the airport: carpets, paintings and other comfort items are conducive to relaxation.

Also, stores often sell bestsellers, which are most associated with the city in which the airport is located. For example, clothes labeled “Sleepless in Seattle” are in demand at Seattle International Airport (Tacoma) even many years after the release of the film of the same name.
Airports usually have a lot of goods that are suitable for impulse shopping.
