Georgian tourism industry asks to return Russian tourists
The tourism business of Georgia calls on the authorities to preserve the flow of Russian tourists to the country and save the market from having to pay for “provocateurs”.
“Most of the business asks us that together with other tourist markets and support for various destinations, we try to keep Russian tourists in our market,” said Natia Turnava, head of the Georgian Ministry of Economy.
According to her, she understands the request of entrepreneurs, because tourists from Russia make up a quarter of the total flow in Georgia, but she did not promise any measures.
Entrepreneurs in local resorts speak about the events in the country sharply. Representatives of the resort of Kobuleti (Ajara) on Tuesday accused the party of ex-President Mikheil Saakashvili of provoking Russian leader V. Putin to impose restrictions against Georgia in the fields of air transportation and tourism.
Residents of the resort talk about the disruption of the tourist season and blamed the members of the United National Movement: hundreds of reservations are canceled in hotels, and hoteliers and residents who took loans from banks for the development of family tourism for receiving guests will be extreme.
The participants of the action were addressed by Minister of Economy Natia Turnava and Chairman of the Government of Adjara Tornike Rizhvadze, who promised assistance, including to attract travelers from other countries to Georgia.
