Turkey may allow entry of Russians without passports

Russian President Vladimir Putin during a trip to Ankara said about the negotiations between Russia and Turkey on visa liberalization. The Republic of Turkey may approve the entry of Russians on internal passports – this issue was confirmed by Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu in 2017.

This issue has been in discussion for several years, and observers consider a positive decision as possible - after the decline in tourist flow from Russia and the crisis in the Turkish tourism industry, measures to increase interest in the destination look reasonable.

Vladimir Putin believes that the flow of tourists from Russia to Turkey is developing dynamically, he notes: “In this regard, we are discussing the liberalization of the visa regime, agree on what documents it will be possible to carry out visa-free travel.”

The fact that negotiations on the simplification of the procedure for the entry of Russians into Turkey are held at the highest level was recently stated by Numan Kurtulmus, the Minister of Culture and Tourism of the country. On March 13, a press conference was held at which he noted that next summer Turkey intends to receive about 6 million Russian tourists.

According to experts, it will be possible to achieve the declared indicators if Russian citizens are given the opportunity to cross the border on internal passports this season.

In the first quarter of 2018, 81.7 thousand guests from Russia visited Turkey, 55% more than in the same period of 2017.
