Tourists will not pay alcohol tax in Japan

The travel agency of Japan will not charge foreign tourists with a tax on alcohol produced in the regions of the country. A plan to waive alcohol tax for foreign nationals has been sent to the country's Ministry of Finance.

The plan assumes that tourists will not pay tax on local alcoholic products (sake, wine, whiskey, vodka).

Vangkok Rost reports that this is how the agency plans to boost the economy of alcohol-producing regions.

The tax on a 720 ml bottle of sake is 86.4 yen (about 86 cents), on 750 ml of wine - 60 yen, and on 350 ml of beer - 77 yen.
