Will tours become cheaper by 10-15% due to the outflow of Chinese?

Maya Lomidze, executive director of the Association of Tour Operators of Russia (ATOR) said that now tours to Southeast Asia have fallen slightly, but if the outflow of Chinese tourists continues, vacations in Southeast Asia and in some European countries may become cheaper by 10-15%.

At present, prices for tours in Southeast Asia, primarily Thailand and VietnamIt’s down 5-7%, but that’s not the limit. There are chances that if Chinese tourists continue to be restricted in leaving, then Southeast Asian countries and some European countries will become cheaper by 10-15%.

Russian tourists are not too afraid of the coronavirus. “However, we see that tourists carefully monitor the situation, making a choice mainly in favor of destinations where the chance to encounter guests from China is minimal,” explains Maya Lomidze.

The expert believes that in February-March, the loss of the Russian organized tourist business from the stop of tourist flow from Russia. China They may amount to 3 billion rubles. With the average cost of a tour (ground service without air transportation) per tourist from China in the amount of $500 only in February, Russian tour operators for inbound tourism did not count income of at least 1.4 billion rubles. <...> In March, tourists from China to Russia will also not come - these reservations are canceled. It was expected that revenues from the reception of tourists from China in March will also amount to at least 1.4 billion rubles.

If pessimistic forecasts come true and the tourist flow from China will freeze for the summer - this figure will increase by an order of magnitude - in May-September, the losses will amount to 31 billion rubles.
