New Mayan calendar found in Guatemala, 'end of the world' postponed
In Guatemala discovered a new Mayan calendar, according to which the end of the world is postponed. Archaeologists have found tables that date back to the IX century AD. Their decoding will take years, but the main conclusion scientists have already made – the calendar is designed for 7 thousand years, which means that the end of the world in the near future is not foreseen.
In addition, the type of calendar itself is interesting - until now scientists have found manuscripts. And these tables are frescoes painted on the walls of a house in one of the so-called dead Mayan cities. According to experts, the images served as a textbook for future astronomers of the tribe.
Until now, another Mayan calendar was discovered in the Mexican temple of Comalcalco. The artifact is a stone slab about 1300 years old. It is an ancient Mayan cyclic calendar consisting of 13 consecutive time periods. Each period lasts 394 years. The calendar ends on the 13th period, which in translation to our chronology will begin on December 21, 2012, from which the researchers concluded that the Maya predicted the end of the world on this day.
