In Italy, tourists are offered a free drink from the wine fountain

Villa Caldari in Ortona opened a fountain in which instead of water flows local red wine. The wine fountain is open around the clock and free of charge for tourists.

The authors of the idea of opening the fountain are local entrepreneurs who organize pilgrimage tours “The Way of St. Tommaso”. They were inspired by the Bodegas Irache Fountain in Navarre, Spain, which is found on the path of pilgrims traveling along the Camino de Santiago.

Now all pilgrims, and not only, can enjoy a glass of two good red wines from the producers of Abruzzo. Although it is not the only wine fountain in Italy, in Ortona, the wine streams will beat uninterrupted, while the historic wine fountains of San Floriano del Collio (in the province of Gorizia), Carosino (Taranto) and Marino (Rome) open only on special occasions.
