Number of cyclists increases in Prague
In the Czech capital, more and more people prefer bicycles to cars or public transport. In summer, about 4% of Prague residents use bicycles.
Not so long ago (June 16) there was a strike of transport unions, during which public transport practically did not work, as a result of which 35% of citizens were forced to move using a bicycle. The number of cyclists in Prague has increased by 10 times.
The authorities of the Czech capital intend to create all the necessary conditions for cyclists: to build new tracks, modernize existing ones, organize two-way traffic. Bicycles are the most environmentally friendly mode of transport, and cycling is good for health, and if some people use a bicycle, the burden on public transport will decrease.
Currently, Prague has 433 kilometers of bike lanes and 920 special parking lots (in 2011 the number will increase by another 300).
