Putin opposes introduction of QR codes on transport before New Year
Russian President Vladimir Putin is confident that the introduction of QR codes on transport on the eve of the New Year can create many problems for Russians.
“Now on New Year’s Eve, it seems to me that imposing restrictions of this kind is a rather complicated story. We will create many problems for people, he said at a meeting with government members, after hearing reports by Deputy Prime Minister Tatyana Golikova on similar restrictive measures abroad and Minister of Transport Vitaly Savelyev on the relevant legislative initiative in the Russian Federation.
In turn, Savelyev said that the bill on the introduction of mandatory QR codes was withdrawn from consideration in the state Duma in order to "take a deeper look at all the risks that arise when using electronic certificates."
We believe that we will finalize this bill... And all the questions that citizens ask us, we must discuss and find solutions.”
State Duma Chairman V. Volodin said on December 13 that at a meeting of the Duma Council it was decided to withdraw from consideration the government bill providing for the use of air and rail transport on presentation of QR codes.
