Carnival starts in Venice this week
On Saturday, February 26, the traditional annual carnival will begin in Venice. This year, the organizers decided to repeat the plot of the famous film by Federico Fellini, shot in 1980, and call Venice “City of Women” for 10 days. At the same time, the city will plunge into the atmosphere of the last century.
The official opening ceremony of the carnival took place last weekend – February 19-20. On Saturday, citizens and tourists raised the "Gran Brindisi a Venezia" (Gran Brindisi a Venezia). And on Sunday you could admire the procession of gondolas on the Grand Canal.
The main celebrations start this Saturday. Venice will start a carnival extravaganza with the Feast of Mary. At the same time, the Festa delle Marie procession will depart from San Pietro di Castello, which will pass through St. Mark’s Square to the Riva degli Schiavoni. The procession will recreate the story of the abduction of twelve girls and their rescue by the Venetians.
Throughout the ten days of the Carnival, from morning to night, St. Mark’s Square will become a theatrical stage, where parades and author’s performances will be held, as well as performances prepared by artists from different countries.
