In the Vologda region is preparing a tourist route “Great Russian Northern Way”
The Vologda region will become part of the new tourist route “The Great Russian Northern Way”, which will begin in Moscow and end on the famous Solovetsky Islands. Discussion of the details of the route took place on August 8 at a meeting in the regional government.
According to the administration, the key stops on the way will be the historical cultural cities of Vologda, Kirillov and Belozersk. In general, the route will cover 10 points where travelers will be able to see unique objects of world importance, including Orthodox churches and samples of traditional wooden architecture typical of the Russian North.
“We are currently identifying key sites for display. This project can become an impetus for the development of pilgrimage tourism in the region. We have many shrines and places of power of the Russian world, which we must protect and glorify, Governor Georgy Filimonov said on the government website.
The creation of the route is carried out jointly with employees of the regional administration, the Vologda diocese of the Russian Orthodox Church (ROC) and the non-profit organization Heritage of the Russian North.
