Russian Aerospace Forces will have access to Egyptian military bases, will resorts open to tourists?

Russia and Egypt were able to reach new “military” agreements: Russia approved a plan for an agreement with Egypt on the use of Egyptian military bases by Russian military aircraft, which allows Moscow to increase its military presence in the Middle East. This document was signed by Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev on November 28.

The agreement will allow the military of each state to use the air bases of the other for five years, these plans can be extended if agreed.

Some experts have linked the “hung” issue of tourism restoration with the political situation. In the period of “closed” Egypt, Russia was able to become the owner of numerous “bonuses”. For example, the result of the “agreement” between the authorities of the Russian Federation and Egypt, in which the Russian tourist flow can be considered the main trump card for Russia to receive additional preferences from Egypt in various areas, were deals to purchase from Russia up to 50 SSJ-100 aircraft, MiG-29 fighters and Ka-52K ship helicopters for the Mistrals. Agricultural issues are also addressed: Egypt allowed the import of Russian chickens. Also, Egypt can become a state in which the use of the Mir bank card is “breaking through”, as well as Turkey.

Discussion of the tragic events in Sinai and the closure of Egypt arises at the stage of “military” negotiations. For example, this issue was raised by Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu, who was in Cairo for a meeting on November 29, and expressed condolences over the recent massacre at a mosque in Egypt’s Sinai Peninsula, and added the importance of strengthening cooperation in the fight against terrorism.

An agreement on airport security and the restoration of air links between the two countries has not been reached even two years after the attack.
