Vladimir Putin offers a version of the world map

On April 27, Russian President Vladimir Putin at a meeting of the Board of Trustees of the Russian Geographical Society instructed his subordinates to create a new atlas of the world with native Russian names.

The President is outraged by the fact that many of the Russian toponyms given in past centuries by our explorers and travelers have been replaced by foreign ones on the world map, and he asks not to distort the “geographical truth” by removing Russian toponyms from the world map. “This is especially noticeable in Antarctica, where the names given by the discoverers of the continent, Lazarev and Bellingshausen, are almost out of circulation,” the president said.

It is possible that in the end Russia will be called Russia and Istanbul – Constantinople.

The President stressed that the development needs to involve the Russian military. I ask you to create an atlas of Rosreestr together with the experts of the Russian Geographical Society and with the participation of the Ministry of Defense.
