Smokers may have problems in Vietnam - fines imposed in Hanoi

The authorities of Hanoi have imposed a ban on smoking near the sights - $13 fines threaten smokers near the temples of Ngoc Son and Ba Kieu in the area of Lake Hoankyem, the Hanoi Opera House, the National Library, St. Joseph's Cathedral, the National Historical Museum Vietnam.

The list of monuments that have been banned includes 30 objects - there are warnings about a ban on smoking and possible punishment.

Hanoi authorities say the move is part of a wide-ranging campaign to combat the habit. In the future, the list of attractions next to which smokers will be fined is planned to increase - in total there will be 190 objects.

Now the anti-smoking company in Hanoi involves restaurants and hotels in the central district of Hoankiem, where smoking is prohibited.

Compliance with the law at the facilities is monitored by police, and in the first eight months of 2019, violators were fined 30 million dong ($ 1,300).
