The World Tourism Organization named the direction with the best development
According to the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) (annual report on global travel and tourism), it follows that in 2017 the Arab Republic of Egypt was able to attract approximately 8.5 million tourists, an increase of 55.1% compared to the same time last year.
This is a good indicator for the recovery of the tourism industry after the “failed” 2016, when the number of tourists was only 5.2 million.
Elhami al-Zayat, the former head of the Federation of Tourist Chambers of Egypt, is confident that the growth figures are good.
Until 2011, tourism developed the fastest, but suffered after the 2011 revolution. A further shock is the crash of a Russian airliner over Sinai on October 31, 2015. For Russians after this disaster, the resorts of the Red Sea are still closed, despite the ongoing negotiations.
The tourist map of Egypt is different. Before the revolution in 2011, Russian tourism ranked first on Egypt’s tourist map, followed by the British and German markets. Currently, German tourists are in first place, followed by the British and then the Ukrainians.
In 2018, Egypt’s statistics are also encouraging: Tourism Minister Rania Al-Mashat previously said that the number of tourists who come to the country increased by 30% in the first quarter of 2018.
