Issuance of visas to Russians in the United States suspended
The issuance of non-immigrant visas will be stopped from August 23, 2017 throughout the Russian Federation. This statement was circulated by the US diplomatic mission in Russia.
The process of issuing visas will be resumed in Moscow from September 1, 2017. In other cities, the issuance of visas is suspended indefinitely. Previously scheduled interviews are cancelled, and those who have already submitted paperwork can reassign appointments.
This decision is due to Moscow’s desire to reduce the number of employees of the American diplomatic mission in Russia. A month ago, President Vladimir Putin decided to reduce the staff of American diplomatic missions by 755 people, to 455 employees. The measure was a response to the seizure of the US diplomatic property of the Russian Federation and the adoption by the Congress of the United States of America of the law on sanctions against Russia.
