Clothing exhibition from the past
The St. Petersburg Ethnographic Museum presented visitors with a unique collection of belt clothes. According to the assurances of the museum staff, many novice designers will be interested in the exposition. Fish skin, silk, intestines, fur, cotton were used by many peoples in the manufacture of pants and skirts. Often these details of clothing were not visible to outsiders, but the variety of decor and cut is amazing. A striking example is the pants worn by Georgian wrestlers. Natalia Kalashnikova, the curator of the exhibition, admires how beautiful and convenient they are sewn, calling the pants a work of art. And specialists can easily determine by clothes who was and how a person lived, rich or poor, what business he was engaged in. The first trousers began to wear nomadic peoples. The cut was very simple: narrowed pants with wedge-shaped inserts. It seems that such pants were worn by a giant, but in fact, such shuffles were worn by skinny girls. Irina Karapetova, who holds the position of curator of the Russian Ethnographic Museum, said that the exhibition collected rare things, many of them are not in any other museums. Looking at the exhibits, you realize that in earlier times fashion was of great importance. An example of this are thongs from the seal of the mid-19th century.
