The U.S. Geological Service initially estimated the magnitude of the quake at 6.8, but later reduced the magnitude to 6.7 and then to 6.5. Experts report that the epicenter of the earthquake was at a distance of 42 km. from the city of Iguala, Guerrero, and its focus was located at a depth of 65 km. Authorities confirmed the collapse of some buildings in the city. According to the Interior Department of Mexico, tremors were felt in 9 states of the country.

Around the World was about a powerful 6.9-magnitude earthquake that hit Mexico last year. Its epicenter was located 140 km from La Paz, Baja California Sur. People were evacuated from schools and other public facilities, and city services received calls from concerned residents.
Earthquakes of this kind often occur in Mexico. For example, in April 2009 there was an earthquake of magnitude 5.6-6. Its epicenter was at a depth of 48 km near the resort town of Acapulco. Neither in it nor in the nearby cities there was no serious destruction and casualties, but the locals, as well as the population of the capital, were frightened by the tremors that rocked the buildings.
