General information

KMIZ is one of the largest enterprises of the medical industry in Russia, a manufacturer of dental, microsurgical tools and polymeric medical products. Its full name is Joint Stock Company "Kazan Medical Instrument Plant". The main activity is the production of medical instruments and equipment The operating company, assets for 2025 amounted to about 1.3 billion rubles. History

The history of the plant began not in Kazan, but in Kiev: in 1931, a factory of dental bors was founded there with charitable funds - its task was to replace imported German dental instruments. The first spherical boron was produced on April 14, 1931 on German and Swiss equipment, by 1941 the capacity reached 3,340,000 borons per year.

In July 1941, the factory was evacuated to Kazan - only 38 personnel and 28 main production machines arrived. By 1945, the team blocked the pre-war production volumes, and by 1958 the plant was already producing 14 million borons per year and produced the first samples of endocanal tools and dental tips. In 1960, a decree was issued on the development of the medical industry of the country, the construction of buildings on the modern site along the street began. Saidasheva. In 1961-1962, the plant made the most complex for that time equipment - artificial kidney devices, vasoconductors, and sold patents for products to leading countries of the world.

In 1976, for constant leadership in the social competition, the plant was awarded the Order of the Red Banner of Labor. In the 1990s, the enterprise became a joint-stock company, and the Cabinet of Ministers of Tatarstan determined the KMIZ as the head organization of the republic for the development and implementation of medical instruments. In 2021, the plant celebrated its 90th anniversary, turning from a small dental factory into a technology leader in the industry.

Products

• Endodontic instruments are pulpoextractors, channel expanders, root needles and filets for the treatment of pulpitis and periodontitis.
• Hard-alloy milling cutters and borons – KMIZ remains the only manufacturer of hard-alloy borons in Russia, produces more than 3 million of them per year.
• Diamond heads for therapeutic and orthopedic dentistry.
• Dental tips and micromotors - turbine tips (including those developed jointly with the German company Sirona), pneumatic micromotors, rockers, corona pickers.
• Needles surgical and microsurgical sets - it was the sets of Kazan production ordered by world-famous cardiologists Michael Debeiki and Renat Akchurin, ophthalmologist Svyatoslav Fedorov (for him made the famous "set Fedorov"), surgeon-oncologist Mikhail Davydov. Tools KMIZ operated even the first President of Russia.
• Cutters and diamond heads for hardware manicure and pedicure – this direction was launched in 2020, now products are sold including on marketplaces.

Quality and production

KIZ was one of the first in Russia to be certified according to international standards ISO 9001 and ISO 13485 for manufacturers of medical devices. More than 1,000 products are certified under the European Directive, which gives the right to put the CE mark and freely enter the EU market. In recent years, the plant has been actively modernized: it bought machining centers from South Korea and the UK, equipment from Denmark, Spain and Switzerland (Rollomatic machines), launched an automated galvanic line for the production of diamond heads and a line of manicure cutters.

In 2018, a subsidiary company KMIZ Luch was opened - the only one in the Volga region and the largest in Russia center for commercial gas sterilization of medical devices.
