SPECIALIST SMIRNOVA

Description:

Tverskoy Boulevard is the oldest boulevard in Moscow. Over more than 200 years of history, the boulevard has witnessed many amazing events. Tverskoy Boulevard served as a stage for a theater called Moscow Life. On his stage played out all sorts of dramatic productions of comedic or even vaudeville properties, but more often - tragic. The boulevard remembers both the soldier of Napoleon’s great army, and the passions of the Russian aristocracy, and the motley Moscow audience, who loved to spend time here pleasantly, visiting the cafe “Arbatskaya” and enjoying the fragrance of flowers.

Among the architectural diamonds of Tversky Boulevard there are many remarkable buildings worthy of special attention. For example, the mansion of the wine producer P.P. Smirnov. At the beginning of the 20th century, elegant, soft green, the mansion was rebuilt from an ancient city estate by the architect F.O. Shechtel. The master of modernity managed to create an incredible beauty and elegance of a fabulous palace.

During our tour we will visit the luxurious rooms of this mansion. Each of these rooms is decorated in its own architectural style: Roman, Classic, Egyptian. Admire the bizarre ceiling stucco with bas-reliefs and paintings in the Art Nouveau style, consider huge stained glass windows and medieval scenes on an impressive fireplace. We will try to unravel the symbols and signs left to us by the architect in the interiors of this mansion.

You will know:

  • Who has been to P.P. Smirnov’s house?
  • What stories are going on in Moscow about this mansion?
  • What engineering innovations were first applied by Schechtel in the construction of the mansion?
  • What happened to the Smirnovs after the revolution?
  • Why was Shechtel called a “bad” architect?
