Embassy business
Description:
In 1549, an embassy order was created in Moscow. He had not only to conduct business, correspondence, send Russian ambassadors abroad and receive foreign envoys and traders in Moscow, but also to develop a special ambassadorial ceremony, to equip “ambassador’s people” with local housing. In the XVI century, the rules of diplomatic negotiations and receptions were formed, that is, the “ambassadorial rite”, which existed without much change until the XVIII century. Traditional Moscow hospitality did not leave indifferent any of the numerous foreign guests who visited the city, and invariably noted in their travel notes.
We will walk through the historical district of Moscow, which is now unofficially called the “Ambassador’s quarter”. Indeed, in the area of Bolshaya Nikitskaya and Povarskaya streets, diplomatic missions of different countries are located in luxurious merchant mansions.
